Today's promise: God is merciful to us
Christ as our High
Priest
This High Priest of
ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same temptations we
do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious
God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we
need it.
Hebrews 4:15-16 NLT
I am overcome with joy because of your unfailing love, for you have seen my troubles, and you care about the anguish of my soul. You have not handed me over to my enemy but have set me in a safe place.
Psalm 31:7-8 NLT
The depth of the Divine mercy
I did not then see
what is now the most shining and obvious thing: the Divine humility which will
accept a convert even on such terms. The Prodigal Son at least walked on his
own feet. But who can duly adore that love which opens the high gates to a
prodigal who is brought in kicking, struggling, resentful, and darting his eyes
in every direction for a chance to escape. The words compel them to come in,
have been so abused by wicked men that we shudder to use them; but, properly
understood, they plumb the depth of the Divine mercy. The hardness of God is
kinder than the softness of men, and His compulsion is our liberation.
